The Year of Happiness 

 

Each symbol on the King’s Coat of Arms represents some facet of King Alan’s life. Symbols such as these are often found on family crests, with each symbol representing something related to the attributes, characteristics or dreams of a particular family or clan. The importance of these symbols found on the Coat of Arms of Neptunus Rex XLV are explained below:

The Trident represents the command of the sea and Ye Mystic Krewe of Neptune, and for me, it also represents my Father-in-law, John Elias, who brought me into this organization. I am so fortunate to be a part of this brotherhood and want to preserve and carry on the traditions that we have created.

The Chinese Symbol represents “double happiness” or “joy multiplied by two”. This represents our two children, Brady and Emily, who Beth and I are proud to call our own. They make our family whole.

The Pegasus symbol from Greek mythology represents freedom, speed, and power. It is also the logo for Mobil Oil, the company who I have spent my entire 35-year career working for as an Engineer. This has afforded me the opportunity to visit over 14 countries, work with many different cultures, work on commercial aircraft and on the world’s largest and most powerful ships.

The Dumpling and Wine glass is a sketch drawn by our daughter Emily, which represents my love and passion for food and beverages.

The Golf Ball and Cross Bones represents the love hate relationship I have with this classic sport. My father’s passion as well as John’s enjoyment of this game continues to be a part of my life; no matter how poorly I play, there is always another round.

The Chinese Zodiac Symbols, Goat, Pig, Pig, Ox, represents me, Beth, Brady, and Emily. True to each of us, they represent characteristics which make us uniquely different, but with the ability to live together in harmony.

 

The Ships Wheel represents the marine industry I have spent my career in, the continuity of life, and friendships that will last forever as part of Ye Mystic Krewe of Neptune.
